For two weeks in December 2021, Matlock Methodist/URC organised a Christmas Trail through the centre of Matlock, telling the nativity story from the point of view of the Angel Gabriel. Participants followed a map to find little crocheted angels hidden in various shops. If a family found the trail by accident when walking through Matlock, a poster redirected them to the church or online to download the map.
Costa Coffee kindly displayed a host of angels for us, including prayer angels, praying for peace, that the children of one primary school filled in whilst at a special Christmas event at All Saints Church. At the end of the trail was a postbox with a crocheted topper of baby Jesus inside a present, with a card explaining the real gift of Christmas. A QR code contained a video link to the animation God Became Me, by Scripture Union, and the local Methodist church events. There were lots of positive comments on social media and in person.
